Nano-Safety Alliance Section is in charge of the implementation of nano-safety under the Master Plan of the National Nanotechnology Center (2017 – 2011) and the Nanotechnology Ethics and Safety Strategic Plan 2017 – 2011, including three strategies:
Strategy 1: Create and manage knowledge on safety and ethics in nanotechnology and nano-products.1. Develop media to disseminate knowledge regarding nano-safety for industrial, government, and general public sections in easily accessible formats.2. Develop manuals and guidelines in nano-safety for the industrial sectors, academics, and researchers in laboratory3. Search and disseminate the updated information in nano-safety
Strategy 2: Develop and strengthen the nano-safety regulation for relevant agencies1. Establish the standards for nanotechnology products cooperated with the Nanotechnology Industry Standards Institute. The 7 books of nano-guidelines have published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette, including1) Nanotechnology Volume 1: Guidelines for specifying nanomaterials from manufacturing2) Nanotechnology Volume 2: Guidelines for characterizations of nanomaterials from Manufacturing3) Nanotechnology Volume 3: Guidelines for manage and dispose of nanomaterials safely4) Nanotechnology Volume 4: Physical-Chemical characteristic analysis Guidelines for the toxicology evaluation of manufacturing nanomaterials.5) Nanotechnology Volume 5: Guidelines for the risk assessment of nanomaterials6) Nanotechnology Volume 6: Particle size analysis using Dynamic Scattering Techniques.7) Nanotechnology Volume 7: Health and Safety practices for nanotechnology related professions
Strategy 3: Strengthen and promote civil society participation1) Build and develop industrial networks to have a better understanding in the safety and product standards of the nanotechnology industries.2) Create awareness of the importance of nanotechnology industrial product standards to implement them correctly and appropriately3) Disseminate knowledge and information to industrial, government and general public sectors through training activities / seminars / exhibitions / printed media / electronic media
In addition, Nano-Safety Alliance Section plays an important role in driving a network of international cooperation and disseminate information about Thailand’s nanotechnology safety operations in international forums such as attending the OECD / WPMN conference, attending ANF / EU meeting, organizing the Interlab Comparison project with partner agencies in National and international level, etc.
