The United States National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) this week released the 2011 NNI Strategic Plan. The previous edition of the plan was released in December 2007. This new plan retains the “overall vision”, four goals and eight program component areas that were outlined in the original edition of the plan, but now includes specific objectives under each goal, and outlines concrete steps that NNI member agencies will take toward collectively achieving the NNI vision and goals. The Plan will be used to guide the coordination of research, training programs and resources of the member agencies. The NNI said the new plan incorporates a broad range of stakeholder input obtained through NNI-sponsored workshops, a formal request in the Federal Register, and its website.
