Argentina and Chile Intensified S & T Cooperation

The countries of Chile and Argentina first began their scientific and technological cooperation in 1974. For the first time since they began collaboration, both countries will undertake joint research, beginning with nanotechnology and non-conventional renewable energies. The agreement was signed in late January between the president of the National Commission on Science and Technology of Chile (CONICYT), José Miguel Aguilera, and Luis Barañao, Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentina (MINCYT), within the framework of the Third Meeting of Ministers Binational Chile-Argentina. According to María Teresa Ramírez, director of the Department of International Relations of CONICYT, “The exchange projects have been so successful that prompted both countries to allocate more resources to cooperation and joint projects with the greatest impact,” adding that nanotechnology is favored because it “offers solutions in areas as diverse as health, food safety and computers, increasing the quality of life of people.” The article, in Spanish, can be viewed online at the link below.
