Why this service
Thailand’s water and air challenges are increasingly complex: seasonal pollution, industrial and agricultural contaminants, and the urgent need to align with carbon-neutrality and Net Zero policies. At the same time, communities and local governments need solutions that work outside the lab: robust monitoring kits, treatment systems that are easy to operate, and materials that extend the life and performance of existing infrastructure.
NANOTEC’s Water & Environment R&D Services address these needs with practical nanotechnology. Our core technology pillars are nanohybrids and coatings, which we translate into ready-to-use water quality measurement kits, innovative filtration systems, and surface technologies that improve environmental performance. Our work is conducted with government agencies, municipalities, universities, and industry so outcomes are designed for field conditions from day one.

What we offer
1) Water Quality Monitoring & Improvement
- Field-deployable water quality measurement kits. Designed for rapid testing and routine monitoring by non-specialists, enabling communities and schools to track local water quality and respond quickly.
- Innovative water filtration systems. We design and deliver filtration units that integrate nano-enabled media and simple process engineering, suitable for rural or peri-urban deployment and municipal use.
Real-world deployments: NANOTEC delivered “nanotechnology-based drinking-water filtration machines” with monitoring equipment to Bu Ket and Lo Chut local authorities in Narathiwat Province (Nov 2024), supporting households affected by flooding. Separately, under a project on measuring and improving potable-water quality for households, communities, and schools, NANOTEC and partners have already benefited more than 3,000 households in Lampang, Khon Kaen, Chiang Rai, and Udon Thani, with expansion planned. A broader collaboration aims to increase access to clean drinking water to over 24,000 households by 2025 through coordinated public-sector partnerships.
2) Air-Quality Sensing & Pollution Response
- E-nose–based PM2.5 monitoring and low-cost sensor networks to complement reference instruments, supporting community-level awareness and local mitigation planning.
- Nanomaterials and coatings that contribute to improved environmental resilience in built environments, aligning with local PM strategies.
These tools extend the same philosophy as our water kits: easy to deploy, easy to use, and easy to maintain, enabling local stakeholders to make timely decisions.
3) Solar-Energy Surfaces for Environmental Performance
- Graphene-assisted solar concentrator innovations (TRL 9).
- Solar-panel coatings (TRL 9).
These surface technologies target improved energy harvesting and durability, important enablers for clean-energy infrastructure that powers water systems and community facilities.
4) Carbon Capture, Utilization & Net-Zero Support
NANOTEC conducts research responsive to global-warming challenges, ready for utilization and scaling in line with carbon-neutrality and Net Zero agendas. Example directions include CCUS (carbon capture and utilization) concepts (TRL 4–5) and related process innovations. Beyond the lab, NANOTEC co-hosts multi-stakeholder activities (e.g., with TCCA) to gather input from industry and government (dozens of organizations and over a hundred participants) and to shape CCUS strategy, collaboration, and policy pathways for Thailand’s industrial sector.
How our service works
Co-design with users
Every engagement starts with your use case – community potable water, factory discharge monitoring, school or hospital needs, or local air-quality challenges. We clarify site constraints (power, operator skill, maintenance), target parameters, and reporting needs.
Laboratory to field
We translate nanohybrids and coating research into deployable kits and units, then pilot them in the field with your team. The goal is reliable operation under real-world conditions (flooding, dust, temperature swings) and data that can be acted upon by local authorities.
Partnership model
Our projects frequently involve public partners: provincial administrations, ministries, universities and community organizations. This accelerates scale, training, and long-term ownership of the solutions.
Example use cases
- Municipal drinking-water safety: Install a NANOTEC filtration unit with integrated quality-monitoring for small towns; train local operators; use dashboarded results to schedule maintenance and report to citizens.
- School and clinic water: Deploy compact test kits and filtration at schools to safeguard children’s water intake, with simple record-keeping for inspections.
- Community air awareness: Set up e-nose/PM2.5 nodes across neighborhoods to provide timely alerts and inform local measures.
- Solar-assisted utilities: Apply graphene-enabled solar concentrator or panel coatings at community facilities to improve energy yield for water pumps or treatment units.
- Industrial collaboration: Participate in CCUS dialogues and pilot efforts to evaluate capture/utilization options aligned with national policy directions.
What you receive
- Fit-for-purpose prototype or unit (e.g., water test kit, filtration system, or monitoring node), configured for your site.
- Standard operating procedures and training tailored for local staff.
- Data and reporting templates for routine monitoring, suitable for municipal or project reporting.
- Maintenance guidance and options for follow-up support.
Why work with NANOTEC
- Technologies ready to use: Water-quality kits and filtration systems developed with strategic partners are already operating in Thai communities.
- Scale through partnerships: Projects are implemented with ministries, municipalities, and universities, ensuring alignment with local regulations and efficient adoption.
- Proven impact: Thousands of households have already gained access to clean water, with broader roll-outs underway.
- Net-Zero orientation: Our research and convening activities support national carbon-neutrality pathways (e.g., CCUS working groups).
- One team – materials to systems: From nanohybrids and coatings to devices and processes, we integrate science with engineering to deliver solutions that last.
