NANO Talk: “Global Risks & Research”

“From a researchers’ point of view which of these 3 statement would you consider to be key” asked Dr. Kopr Kritayakirana, Senior Advisor to NSTDA and member of NANOTEC Executive Board

1.   More and better knowledge and understanding through RESEARCH can help strengthen National Resilience esp. against some Technological Global Risks

2.  Better appreciation and understanding of Global Risks can lead to better design and conduct of RESEARCH

3.  Seeking better understanding of Global Risks and strong National Resilience can help point to useful RESEARCH areas and topics.”

Dr. Kopr was speaking to researchers and private sector groups during the recent NANO Talk session at NANOTEC. Dr. Kopr cited the result finding from the World Econ0mic Forum (WEF) Global Risks 2013 (eighth edition).

Also attending this session was Prof. Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, former Minister of S&T and Senior Advisor to NSTDA said that he thinks the Global Risks indicators are a little too big a topic for NSTDA to handle alone. He suggests NSTDA to concentrate on one or two topics at the most. He also thinks that it might be possible to look at global risks the same way we look at the Grand Challenge Program.
