Agricultural, Food, and Water Nanotechnologies for the Poor

This new publication, “Agricultural, Food, and Water Nanotechnologies for the Poor: Opportunities, Constraints, and Role of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIASR)”, published by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), says that there are a number of potential opportunities associated with agricultural, food and water nanotechnology for the poor, but in order to achieve such opportunities, a number of key challenges need to be overcome. The paper explores key technologies that could have a large impact on the poor via increased agricultural productivity, improved water and food safety, and nutrition. It then reviews some of the main challenges to their deployment and adoption by the poor. The paper concludes with a discussion of the potential role of the CGIAR in facilitating the poor’s access to beneficial nanotechnologies.
