Windows that can efficiently collect solar energy and convert it into power have come one step closer to reality thanks to new work by researchers in the US and Italy who have succeeded in embedding silicon nanoparticles in luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) for the first time. The technology, which works by trapping useful frequencies of light and concentrating them to the edges of the structure where small solar cells are placed to capture this energy, could be used to make photovoltaic windows and other energy harvesting surfaces…….
