Functionalized gold nanoparticles could be used to combat multi-drug-resistant pathogenic bacteria according to new experiments by researchers at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The nanoparticles can kill both Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens, including multi-drug-resistant strains while being non-toxic to mammalian cells.
