Speaking at the 3rd International Symposium on IT Convergence Engineering (ISITCE 2011) in POSTECH, Pohang, Korea on the topic of “Development of Nanotechnology in Thailand and the R&D Activities at NANOTEC”, Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, NANOTEC Executive Director said the Thai government recognizes nanotechnology as an important emerging technology and for this reason the National Nanotechnology Policy Committee endorsed the setting up of the National Nanotechnology Center in 2003.
“The Nanotechnology Roadmap for NANOTEC which covers the period from 2010-2013 calls for proactive push in 8 R&D agenda: drug delivery, food processing & storage, textile, vector and pest detection, diagnostic & screening, energy production, water treatment, and agricultural productivity” said Prof. Sirirurg. “The core technology focus at NANOTEC will be in the area of coating, encapsulation, and functional nanostructure”.
The Division of IT Convergence Engineering at POSTECH has organized the International Symposium on IT Convergence Engineering since 2009. The focus is on Ubiquitous Healthcare (U-Health) and Ubiquitous Environment (U-Environment) as part of the World-Class University (WCU) program of the Korean government. U-Health has gained much attention in recent years in industrialized nations as the population is aging in many of these countries and the cost of healthcare as a share of the economy has been rising rapidly.
14 invited speakers from 5 countries participated in the 2 days (July 14-15) symposium.
