Recently, Thailand has implemented “Nanotechnology” in the industrial sector to improve quality and add values of the products which plays an important role in the country’s economic development. The productions of nanomaterials or nanoparticles have been done at both laboratory level and industrial production processes.
National Nanotechnology Center, as an agency with a mission to research and develop nanotechnology in the country, realized the importance of nanotechnology safety as well as the risks that may occur. So, the center has set the regulation to build the confidence in the safety of nanotechnology in the Strategy 3 “driving and developing nanotechnology safely and sustainably” of the master plan of the National Nanotechnology Center. In addition, National Nanotechnology Center cooperated with National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office has created a “Nanotechnology Ethics and Safety Strategic Plan 2012 – 2017” to guide the implementation of nano-safety in the country as the first edition. Now, the Nanotechnology Ethics and Safety Strategic Plan 2017 – 2021 has been prepared to be used as the second edition.
However, building an awareness of nanotechnology safety to the target groups, such as industrial, government, as well as the public sector can build a confidence in the uses of nanotechnology in the production processes, research, and development. It also gives consumers’ confidence in using nanotechnology products which can raise the level of the standards of nanotechnology products, create economic growth for the country, and increase the competitiveness of the Thai industrial products using sustainable nanotechnology.
