NANOTEC recently organized a NANO Talk on “Printed Intelligence” to provide information on the role of printed intelligence to the enhancement of paper and board products. The application of printed intelligence includes such areas as hybrid media, smart and active packaging, security devices, disposable sensors, diagnostic devices, and functional wallpapers. The commercial aspects of printed intelligence are expected to expand exponentially.
“New printable materials, print production processes and camera phones are now paving the way for expanding the role of printing towards printing intelligence” said Dr. Sanna Rousu, Senior Research Scientist at VTT Technical Research Center of Finland. “Printed intelligence is NOT to be confused with printed electronics since their respective targets and development steps are different”.
The Printed Functional Solutions Centre at VTT focus is in developing material and processing solutions in the areas of organic electronics including OLEDs, OPV and OFETs, large area sensors, biosensors and as well as polymer microfluidics. In addition to laboratory facilities, VTT has world class R2R pilot machinery including all principle printing technologies, coating, evaporation, lasering technologies etc.
