NANOTEC recently organized a NANO Talk session and the invited speaker included Prof. Anouar Jorio and Prof. Izeddine Zorkani from Université Med Ben Abdellah, Fès in Morrocov. Prof. Zorkani gave a talk on “Optical properties of Magneto-Donor Impurities in Quantum Dot” and Prof. Jorio gave a talk on “The effects of the 1MeV neutrons irradiation on the Hall mobility of n-GaAs obtained by MOCVD”.
“The application of quantum dot (QD) is varied depending on their materials and shape” said Prof. Zorkani. “However, it is important to understand the effect of the impurity position, the electric field, the quantum size and the longitudinal optical phonons LO if we are to make the most of QD. Our study shows how the magnetic field splits the degeneracy of some excited states and enhances the threshold energy of the absorption coefficient. The results obtained shows that the absorption coefficient is strongly affected by the quantum size effects, the magnetic field and the position of the impurity”.
“This research shows the irradiation induced in n type MOCVD GaAs displacement damage like the gallium vacancy defect” said Prof. Jorio. “The microscopic nature of defect induced by all types of irradiation is the same. The difference is their introduction rate (b) which varies like E-1 for charged particles and constant for neutral particles”.
In addition to giving the presentations, Prof. Zorkani and Prof. Jorio visited NANOTEC labs and met with researchers. Prof. Zorkani also took this opportunity to discuss collaborative activities with Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Executive Director of NANOTEC. Two possible activities discussed pertain to the idea of African nations’ participation in Asia Nano Forum (ANF) and a joint scientific symposium either in South Africa, Morocco, or Thailand. Prof. Sirirurg will discuss this idea with ANF executives during ANF Summit in Teheran in Oct.
NANO Talk is an open session for both public and researchers. It is held on a monthly basis and aim at promoting research information exchanges and building networking. Researchers interested in participating as a speaker can contact NANOTEC Public Relations Section.
