On Feb 26 participants to the NANO Talk session on ““Science Communication – A tool to inspire and create impact” enjoyed a very lively and frank dialogue with Dr. Wilaiporn Chetanachan, Director of Siam Cement Group (SCG) Corporate Technology Office and member of the NANOTEC Executive Board. Using a simple bottle of water as a prop for her dialogue, Dr. Wiliaporn was able to share life experiences on the topic of science communication.
“You must be aware of your your target audience when it comes to science communication” said Dr. Wilaiporn. “Never take for granted that because you have a degree people will understand what you are trying to say to them especially when it comes to explaining how your research projects it making an impacts on society and economy”. According to Dr. Wilaiporn, every researcher must be able to explain in layman’s terms and with limited amount of time how their work is making an impact. This is often one of the most important tasks that a research agency will ask of their researchers.
Dr. Wilaiporn also gave positive inspirations comments to the young and upcoming researchers. One comment pertains to being proud of one’s research career but at the same time not to look down on the general public.
NANO Talk is a monthly public forum organized by NANOTEC for researchers and visiting professors to exchange knowledge and be updated on technology trends. Visiting professors to Thailand are encouraged to participate.
