NANOTEC celebrated its 10th Anniversary this morning with a religious ceremony, a panel discussion on “Inspiration for Nanotechnology development” by Prof. Dr. Pairash Thajchayapong, Prof. Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, Dr. Kopr Kritayakirana, and Prof. Wiwut Tanthapanichakoon. These panelists are considered pioneers/founder for the establishment of NANOTEC in 2003. The panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Executive Director of NANOTEC. Each of the panelists shared their discussion topics on: passion,
Dr. Phiraphan Phalasuk, Minister of S&T also joined in the celebration by sending his personal advisor Mr. Nirut Kunnawat who gave a presentation on “Role of Nanotechnology for national development”.
“NANOTEC has come a long way since 2003 and several accomplishments have come to bear” said Prof. Sirirurg. “In the area of human resource, we have successfully up our research pool to over 100 researchers and assistant researchers, carrying out research at our headquarters at Thailand Science Park. This is equivalent to 70% of the total NANOTEC staff. With regards to publication, our researchers have published a total of 357 international publications. This is considered a significant number given our researcher pool”.
Prof. Sirirurg went on to inform that NANOTEC will continue to concentrate their focus on R&D programs that will have impacts. In order to do this, NANOTEC will initiate a ten Flagship Program approach in which all researchers are encouraged to participate. By implementing this approach, NANOTEC hope to foster the importance of the need to be a research goal oriented agency and thus making its name synonymous with the term high technology and benefiting the country. Mr. Nirut handed the Flagship Program logo to the Program Managers marking the official launch of the NANOTEC Flagship Program.
NANOTEC also received well wishes from across the ocean. Dr. Mihail Roco, chair of the US National Science and Technology Council subcommittee on Nanoscale Science, Engineering and Technology (NSET), and is Senior Advisor for Nanotechnology at the National Science Foundation forwarded his ccongratulations to NANOTEC for a decade of continuing progress of nanotechnology in Thailand. Dr. Meyya Meyyappan, Chief Scientist for Exploration Technology at NASA Ames Research Center, USA forwarded his wished to NANOTEC for many more years of success.
