Risk management is anything one does to reduce exposure to liability. In research and development risk management is taken very seriously. Obviously, it is not possible to completely implement all the necessary steps pertaining to risk management of a research institution due to various constraints such as budget, manpower, uncertainty in policy/information, environment, and process.
On August 25, NANOTEC invited Mr. Khemadhat Sukondhasingha, a member of NANOTEC Executive Board who is considered an expert in the topic to give a talk on “Risk Management of R&D & Stage Gate Model” to researchers, policy staff, and senior management.
“NSTDA is in the business of research development. Therefore, it is important that research agencies within NSTDA clearly understands the significant benefits of risk management from a business sense” said Mr. Khemadhat. “By being able to use risk management process such as Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Stage Gate Model will help to better organize research directions to create impact success”.
Mr.Khemadhat also mentioned the importance of Business Development Unit also known as Technology Management Unit to be a vital part of risk management. “Business Development is NOT the same as Marketing. Business Development must be in the position to provide information regarding consumers’ needs and help put together specific technology package that can be presented to potential customers. Doing so will help research projects move up the TRL chart”.
NANO Talk is a monthly public forum organized by NANOTEC for researchers and visiting professors to exchange knowledge and be updated on technology trends. Visiting professors to Thailand are encouraged to participate.
