Dr. Rawiwan Maniratanachote Head of Nano Safety and Risk Assessment Lab (SRA) at NANOTEC joined the 1st Workshop on East Asia Nanoparticle Monitoring Network (EA-NanoNet-1) in which she presented a talk entitled “Measurement of workplace exposure to nanoparticles: The first trial in paint manufacturers”. Dr. Rawiwan said the talk demonstrated the results of her lab research which received collaboration from Prof.Masami Furuuchi from Kanazawa University and Dr.Wisanti Laohaudomchok from Occupational Safety and Health Bureau, Thailand.
“Conventional components in paint manufacturing like CaCO3 and talc may contain substantial amount of nanosized particulates giving rise to airborne nanoparticle concentrations” said Dr. Rawiwan. “Risk assessments carried out for e.g. paint manufacturing processes using conventional non-nano components should take into account potential nanoparticle emissions as well”.
The workshop was held at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University on March 17, 2014. The workshop was organized by the College of Science and Engineering, Kanazawa University, Japan and Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. Participants to the workshop came from East Asian countries including, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Thailand.
