Fenugreek seed is a plant that comes with interesting biological activities such as anti-allergy, antioxidant or anti-inflammatory effects as the plant itself is filled up with flavonoid substances (e.g. rutin). However, the seed extracts are very unstable, so it is very hard to use in cosmetic applications. Our research team, therefore, solved this problem by using encapsulation technique. The fenugreek seed extracts were encapsulated in nanocarrier called ‘liponiosome’ in which increase overall stability and efficacy of the extracts. The extract-encapsulated liponiosome were then formulated into facial serum. It was proved in vitro that the product has anti-collagenase activity. In addition, the product was tested with more than 100 volunteers and proved to be safe with no irritation and showed improvement in skin elasticity and moisturizing effects.
Grammatophyllum speciosum Blume or Tiger orchid is the largest orchid species in the world which can be found in tropical rainforest. Phenolic glycosides are the main active ingredients in tiger orchid extract with good antioxidant, anti-wrinkle, and anti-photoaging activities. A tiger orchid extract loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) system was developed to improve the extract solubility, texture, stability, spreadability, as well as skin penetration. In vivo tests in 31 Asian volunteers age between 35 to 55 years old show that facial cream, containing tiger orchid NLC is non-irritating, reduces wrinkles in 4 weeks and shows visible skin whitening in 2 weeks.
